How can you help?

Griffith University are currently looking for volunteers to help in their research project. Work involves collating datasets, bushwalking to find glossy nests, mapping of Allocasuarina stands on the Gold Coast and following up on recent sightings. If you can help please call Dr Guy Castley on 555 27784.

The Glossy Black Conservancy has various training programs and activities that emphasize Community Awareness and education about the Glossy's. You may wish to contact some of the local councils to express your interest in awareness activities.

Go bird watching in your local area; look and listen for the signs of Glossy Black-Cockatoos, such as chew marks on fallen she-oak cones (orts) and the distinctive sound of cockatoos chewing on the seeds.

  • If you have she-oaks on your property - don't clear them, if may be a feed tree for Glossy Black-Cockatoos in the future.

  • See your garden, whether a suburban backyard or large property, as habitat for the cockatoo and plant glossy food trees
  • Prevent the clearing of Hollow bearing trees in your community and install nest boxes for Glossy Black-Cockatoos.
